Natural Grocers talked to a panel of the company’s category managers, nutrition experts, and editorial staff to find out what trends to expect in nutrition and health for the upcoming year. Here are their predictions for the top 10 nutrition trends for 2017. 1. Eating Healthy Also Means Eating Ethically. Whether it is ethical eggs or humane animal husbandry, consumer interest in how their food was produced is at an all-time high. This is perhaps most evident by the passage of legislature in Massachusetts that banned the use of inhumane animal confinement. Even more telling, 78% of voters supported this law!

The Importance of Resilience for Kids With Learning and Attention Issues by Donna Volpitta12/21/2017 At a Glance
But facing challenges and learning from them can have an upside. It can help your child build resilience. This vital life skill is what allows kids to tackle their challenges despite having setbacks. Learn more about what resilience means and how to help your child develop it. Ask any student what their favorite part of high school is, and more often than not, their answer would be ‘sports.’ It brings the school together, it adds excitement, and some may even argue that athletics can even help keep students focused on their future. At Chandler’s Hamilton High School – one of the most athletically talented public schools in the state of Arizona – sports are more than just sports. They help students guide themselves through the stress of high school, and the school’s athletic program helps keep them on the right track. Most of the time, high school is the last chance for athletes to participate in their chosen sport, while some go on to play at the collegiate or professional level. Students know that this could possibly be their last time to participate in a game or a meet, and they are aware of how important athletics are to themselves, not only physically, but mentally as well. When it comes to getting up in the morning, many people’s first instincts are to head straight to the coffee pot to get their morning boost of energy right when they wake up. Although coffee is quite delicious and has its fair share of health benefits, relying on the drink every morning isn’t the best way to make it through the day. Too much coffee can disturb your sleep at night, cause anxiety and stress in some people, and even cause symptoms of withdrawal like low energy and headaches. Luckily, if you’re a fan of your morning cup of joe, but you’re looking for alternate options for that morning boost, there are a number of ways you can get more energy without relying on the drink. Here are six ways you can wake up in the morning full of energy without having to drink coffee. HOW TO OPEN YOUR THIRD EYE
WHAT IS THE THIRD EYE? The pineal gland is a pea-sized gland shaped like a pine cone, located in the vertebrate brain near the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. Also known as the third eye, it is a revered tool of seers and mystics and considered to be the organ of supreme universal connection. Its significance appears in every ancient culture throughout the world. For example, in Ayurvedic philosophy, the third eye is represented by the Ajna chakra and in Ancient Egypt, the symbol of the Eye of Horus mirrors the placement of the pineal gland in the profile of the human head. The third eye is connected to clarity, concentration, imagination and intuition. Police officers have what I call a lose-lose job. No matter what they do, they can't seem to catch a break, in terms of how they are perceived by citizens. If something bad happens they are the first ones to get blamed. If they do something right, they get the "congratulations you're just doing your job." Recently the tensions have grown with all the coverage of the police shootings, which to me shows more of the flaws in reporting, rather than how officers do their job (but that's a whole other ball game). Richard Blom, former Police Chief of Doral in Miami-Dade County is trying to change those perceptions. Aside from being a police chief he's also handled security details for Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump (before he became president) as well as many others including Margret Thatcher! Mr. Blom wants to emphasize that police officers should provide public service and be "guardians" of a community and not be simply painted as"warriors." He's now developing a program with Florida International University to help change the perception of police officers from the inside. Listen as the master story teller himself explains more about this special program! Why You Should Make Time for Self-Reflection (Even If You Hate Doing It) by Jennifer Porter12/17/2017 When people find out I’m an executive coach, they often ask who my toughest clients are. Inexperienced leaders? Senior leaders who think they know everything? Leaders who bully and belittle others? Leaders who shirk responsibility? The answer is none of the above. The hardest leaders to coach are those who won’t reflect — particularly leaders who won’t reflect on themselves. At its simplest, reflection is about careful thought. But the kind of reflection that is really valuable to leaders is more nuanced than that. The most useful reflection involves the conscious consideration and analysis of beliefs and actions for the purpose of learning. Reflection gives the brain an opportunity to pause amidst the chaos, untangle and sort through observations and experiences, consider multiple possible interpretations, and create meaning. This meaning becomes learning, which can then inform future mindsets and actions. For leaders, this “meaning making” is crucial to their ongoing growth and development. Do you know that you can accurately predict where you’ll be five years from now? You can easily know where you’ll be going, what you’ll be doing, and what your income level will be. If you want to know how, the answer is simple: by the company you keep. The people you associate with have a major impact and influence on your personal success. You can tell where most people are going to end up in life simply based on who they hang around. It is likely that your income level is in the same range as that of your closest friends. You talk about the same topics and you usually hang out at the same places. In many cases, you may discover that you’re reading the same books... or none of you are reading at all. Although your five closest friends are your best buds, you have to evaluate your relationships when you are ready to make a change for the better. Relationships are like elevators; they are either bringing you up or taking you down. Every connection isn’t meant for the long haul... sometimes we find ourselves holding on toxic relationships that expired years earlier. This is why it is so important to make the right relationship choices. For your long-term success, you simply must choose the right friends.
