I'm so glad this month is over! The fact that we still designate months to "celebrate" certain cultures seems antiquated and childish. I understand the intentions and the purpose of when they first started labeling months like "Black History Month," I just feel now, in 2017, we can do a little better. I'm pretty headstrong when it comes to this because I feel now it is a small flex of white power, intentionally or unintentionally. The Director for the University of Florida's African-American Studies program, Dr. Sharon D. Austin, challenges my thinking and disagrees with some points but agrees on others. By the end, where do you stand?
