With the 24 hours that everybody has in a day, some of us try to get more work done in it than most. This means that we physically and mentally tax our body to continue expending energy in order to cope with our chaotic work life. Like any machine, the body and the brain will continue to function smoothly until it is overheated or overworked. When that happens, we must give it a rest or otherwise it will breakdown and fail to work again. It is not enough to embark on a relaxing holiday twice a year to take a break from your hectic work schedule. You must also help your mind and body relax and rejuvenate every day after work, especially after the most long and tiresome ones.

Here are a few simple ways to let your mind and body enjoy some self-time and relax after chaotic hours of work.

6 Surprising Benefits of Massage Therapy by Katharine Watts

1) It counteracts all that sitting you do

“Most individuals are dealing with some kind of postural stress,” says Aaron Tanason, registered massage therapist, kinesiologist and owner at Paleolife Massage Therapy in Toronto. “More often than not [that stress] tends to manifest in the shoulders and neck.”

Desk workers, beware. More advanced forms of postural stress “show up as pain or weakness in the low back and gluteals caused by prolonged periods of sitting.”

Luckily, massage can counteract the imbalance caused from sitting, which means you can keep your desk job-as long as you schedule a regular massage.

2) It eases muscle painGot sore muscles?

Massage therapy can help. “Massage increases and improves circulation. Just like rubbing your elbow when you knock it on a table helps to relieve the pain,” says Tanason.

A 2011 study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, found that massage therapy is as effective as other methods of treatment for chronic back pain.

IS MICRO NEEDLING THE NEW BOTOX? by NDAI

What if there was a way to reverse the clock and have healthier, more glowing, more supple skin? Well, the good news is there's a way to achieve this with micro needling. In other news, it's a little expensive and slightly uncomfortable but worth it, and by the end of this article I promise I will convince you it's better than botox and other, more invasive anti-aging procedures.

Recently I visited New You Medical Spa in Yorkville, Toronto. My nurse Kat was amazing, super informative and great at what she does. I felt like I was in great hands after we went through a consultation and discussed problem areas, she laid out my options and we settled on micro needling as a way to address multiple issues I was having with my skin.

If you've ever had a tattoo, the irritation of the skin is very similar to the shading of a tattoo. Depending on the problems being addressed there are different needle length settings to penetrate the many layers of the skin.

Making Something Out of Nothing by David Gussak Ph.D., ATR-BC

Jimmy, a 45-year-old inmate—who looked ten years older—was in prison for vehicular manslaughter. He had been in prison for several years before he was sent to the mental health unit for suicidal thoughts. It soon became clear that since imprisoned he had been taken advantage of by other inmates and ignored by the prison staff. He soon tended to “blend into the background” to avoid drawing negative attention. Eventually he lost all sense of self. He was placed in the art therapy group as he rarely engaged with the other mental health staff.
In one session, the group was asked to take white paper and glue and “make the most out of nothing,” by creating a paper sculpture; it could be anything—something recognizable, or abstract. This is similar to their prison experience—they enter prison stripped of everything, and to succeed they have to make the most out of nothing.

The "war on drugs" is such a topic of debate that most people don't like bringing it up at dinner. Rather than talk about an issue and hammer out some differences, going mute is the preferred option so no one gets offended. Next time someone brings up the "war on drugs," don't shy away from the discussion, embrace it. Talking about an uncomfortable topic can make the very same subject easier to talk about next time. Just make sure to have the facts straight and don't be so passionate that your points get lost in your attitude. Adolphus P. Wright, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) Miami Division, is here to help you with facts, so next time your uncle brings up the "futility" of the "war on drugs," you will be ready.
